On Friday, 26th October, 2018, the North American Branch hosted an event at the Wayfarer in Manhattan. The event was a sell-out, attended by 100 'Rock men, and friends of Blackrock College. The group gathered represented classes ranging from 1954 to 2013. On the night, the school was represented by Alan MacGinty and Alan Rogan, while the Union was represented by Union President John Rogan, and Vice President Stephen Mullin.
The highlight of the evening was the honouring of Ronan Downs ('71) for his decades of service to 'Rock men and the Irish community in New York. In addition to remarks from the School and Union, Ronan spoke of his fond memories of the school, and loyalty he has felt towards generations of 'Rock men and their families arriving on U.S. shores. On behalf of the North American alumni, we thank Ronan again for 'Being There' for us all.
The U.S. branch is planning on a number of events in 2019, including a Los Angeles Golf Classic in February, a Sports & Business event in New York in March, and the annual North American dinner in October. If you are interested in attending upcoming North American events, would like to host an event in your city, or need assistance or connection in the United States, Brian Sugrue ('04), Chairman of the North American Branch, can be reached via email: bsugrue@gmail.com.
