Junior networking event
Date : Sunday, 18th November 2018
On Wednesday 24th of October, a bunch of eager to learn Past Pupil college students, graduates and young professionals gathered together in the function room at the Lep Inn. Ross Ryan (Class of 2014) & Declan O’Sullivan (Class of 1985 ), had put together a great range of Senior Union members who had expertise in their field of work. The junior committee sent around survey’s to each year group to decide on the different fields they wanted addressed in the careers talk while Declan and Ross went about pursuing the most suitable candidate for each sector. Senior members included the following:
Marketing: Brian O’Neil & Adrian Sherry
Sales & Management: Shane O’Neil, Robert Connolly & Philip Sharpe
Engineering: Harry Crowley
Aviation: Mitchel Simpson
Accounting & Finance: David Gillett, Joe McCarthy, Maurice Tunney, Tom Potter, Peter Bennet
Property & Construction: Shane Daly & Robert McCarthy
Law: Eoin Curneen, John O’Doherty, Paul White, Eoin Martin & Tiernan Lowey
Junior Union members ranging from the Class of 2007 to the Class of 2017 were among those in attendance and I think the consensus that whether you were currently in a job or out looking for a job the talk was very beneficial. Some of the key messages picked up were about constantly trying to upskill, find a manager that will push you, use your network and try to change your role/job every three years to keep progression and motivation high in your job.
Thank you very much to all of the speakers for staying around later for some individual advice to the Junior Union Guys. It was a very useful event for all involved and there is huge scope for it to develop into an even bigger event in years to come.
