As part of the schools career program the Union held two evening career talks for the parents of 5th and 6th year on the 16th and 23th of September.
The first talk coming from an educational perspective had two guest speakers, firstly President of Maynooth University Professor Philip Nolan talking about career opportunities in the current economic climate and secondly Mr Alan Mac Ginty who spoke about the educational objectives of Blackrock College chaired by the Union president Mr Stephen Mullin. The the 2nd careers talk was to provide parents with some insight into different career paths emphasising there are many routes to success. The 3 past pupils who spoke on the night were Pierce Dargan, Niall O’Sullivan and Robert O’Sullivan which was chaired by Maurice Tunney. Both evenings were a great success receiving a lot of positive feedback.
The next career events to be held between the Union and the school is the Saturday morning career talks for 5th & 6th year students. The dates have been set for the 9th and the 16th of November next. Thanks to past pupils offering their time the pupils are going to get the opportunity to hear in small groups a wide variety of careers and each of the unique journeys of the speakers
