SCT and JCT progressing well in Cup campaigns
Date : Wednesday, 14th February 2018
The SCT, captained by Liam Turner (6th Year), have qualified for the Semi Finals of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup after a dramatic 19-17 win over a mightily impressive St Gerard’s at Donnybrook on Sunday 18th February. Trailing 14-3 at half time, Blackrock were a different team in the second half with a converted try by Stephen Madigan adding to three James Tarrant penalties that saw Rock slowly reel in their brave opponents. It fell to Tarrant to land a match-winning drop goal eight minutes from time to secure a 19-17 victory and passage to the Semi Finals. St Gerard’s, led superbly by the excellent Ethan Baxter in the back row, can count themselves unlucky to have fallen at this hurdle.
The JCT, under the captaincy of James Culhane (3rd Year) overcame a spirited St Michael’s team on 4th February. Rock made a very strong start and made the most of their chances but credit to St Michael’s for showing great resilience in finishing the match strongly with two well-taken tries. A final scoreline of 36-12 was perhaps a little harsh on St Michael’s but it was an impressive showing from a talented a well-drilled Rock side.
Next up for the JCT is a Quarter Final clash with St Gerard’s on Tuesday 27th February at 3pm (Donnybrook).
