Blackrock College Union Business Lunch
Date : Wednesday, 13th December 2017
On Friday the 24th of November the Union’s premier event, the annual Business Lunch, was once again expertly delivered as 620 past pupils and guests gathered in the O’Reilly Hall at UCD to network and renew old friendships. Rock men from the 1950’s right up to 2015 made this year’s Business Lunch the biggest and best attended so far.
President of the Union Eunan O’Carroll, Class of 1984, took the opportunity to outline his vision for his term in office. With engagement of the diaspora at the forefront, he stated that it is in the interest of all Rockmen that this be led by the Union. “Together we are best, and all stakeholders must discuss and now agree a common agenda. In this respect the Union needs to take bold steps and show leadership” he told the audience.
This year saw the fifth presentation of the Business Person of The Year Award. Congratulations to Philip Lane (Class of 1987), the Governor of the Central Bank, who was extremely gracious in his acceptance of this year’s award. In his speech, Philip outlined some of the challenges and opportunities that are currently facing the Central Bank. It was particularly great to see so many of Philip’s fellow class mates from 1987 in attendance to see him receiving his award.
A very warm welcome was extended to this year’s guest speaker, Michael Kearney, who brought the Snap Franchise to Ireland and then followed this with introducing the Home Instead Senior Care franchise to this country. Michael was also the manager for the IRFU’s Senior Men’s Rugby Team for five years from 2012-2016. Michael gave a very engaging speech, which was well received by all.
As usual the lunch went on well into the evening with quite a number stopping off in Gleeson’s for what is now the traditional way to finish off an extremely enjoyable Union event.
Huge thanks must go to all who attended the lunch and gave so generously in the raffle in support of both the Blue and White support group and the Mission Fund. Special thanks must also be expressed to all the Patrons of the Lunch, who help to make this the special event that it is: AIB Bank, CPL Recruitment, Eugene F Collins law firm, Spirit Motor Group, MMPI Financial Services, Quilter Cheviot
