This year̢۪s Christmas lunch for Senior̢۪s was held in the Shelbourne Hotel on Monday, December 10th.
The event was preceded by a visit to Newman University Church on St Stephens Green. We began with an Advent Prayer Service lead by Fr Myles Healy C.S.Sp (1957) with music from Steven Warner. Then we were given an exciting and interesting virtual tour of this historic Church. Our host was the Rev. William Dailey C.S.C (Director of the Notre Dame – Newman Centre for Faith and Reason) who enlightened his audience with a history of the Church and its founder Cardinal John Henry Newman.
The attendees, numbering almost 70, ladies and gentlemen in the Blackrock College Union Community from many parts of Ireland. Then we strolled across the Green to a welcome reception in the Shelbourne which was then followed by a superb three course meal. We were welcomed by Past Pupils Union President, John Rogan (1989) and then greeted by the General Manager, J P Kavanagh (1989) Fr Cormac O̢۪Brolchain C.S.Sp (1958) then proceeded to sing grace.
After lunch Rev. William Dailey C.S.C spoke to us about his work in the Newman Church and the plans Notre Dame could do to encourage the youth of Ireland back to Church. We were given a brief history of this great Hotel by the concierge/head porter Denis O̢۪Brien. He had many colourful stories to tell.
The general consensus was that the day was a remarkable success and a wonderful occasion to share memories with old and new friends.
PS: The Senior̢۪s events are open to all past pupils of Blackrock College and anyone interested in having their name included on a mailing list should contact Brigid in the Union Offic
