Well we had a great day at the recent Rock Fun Run with some fantastic races in pretty windy conditions. From the offset, very experienced runners, used to 10K and marathons, all said the track posed a great challenge and surprised them with how deceptive it was. In fact some had competed the week before in a 10 K and said that the longer distance race was a dawdle in comparison. Having said that nearly all indicated that they want to do it again as it was very rewarding to finish.
The Overall Male winner,
Ciaran Deally had a very impressive time of
19.01 a full minute and forty seconds ahead of second place
Maurice Tunney whose wife
Sinead won best Female Adult. The Parent and Child race was without doubt the most competitive category with both participants whether a mother daughter father or son egging each other on. This drive to win ended with 5 thousandths of a second separating the winners
Paul and Louie O'Reilly from the second placed
McCarricks.
4th year
Greg Crowley won the fastest male student with
Jodie Gardiner winning the fastest female student.
The Winners of the
John Stafford Memorial cup for the fastest graduated Blackrock Past Pupils race were the class of 1995 with some great running from
Stephen Hawkins and
Gerry Thoruton bringing them across the line.
Special Mentions must go to the class of 1960 who had two runners,
Jarek Delimatsa and Kevin Cavey as well as the class of 1959 where
Niall Mandel from Arizona took part. To put you all to shame who didn’t make it one of these men is 74 and ran the track!!
And of course we had Elvis who Ran the course playing his guitar and singing. He lost his plectrum and kept strumming away not realising he cut his finger in the process. Last name McGuinnes and a sixth year student. Great fun and was awarded a prize for great spirit as well as best costume.
I want to put out a big thank you to our sponsors and contributors as well.
