This years Union North American Branch dinner was held in Chicago to coincide with the Ireland v All Blacks Game and was an enormous success. This dinner was the largest ever hosted by the Union in North America with a capacity crowd of 180 past pupils and their guest dining in Ocean Cut in Chicago.
The attendees were from all over the North America as well as a large contingent who travelled over from Ireland and included 60 CEO's, senior leaders from Irish & North American firms such as Goldman Sachs, Verizon, Wireless, Skadden Arps, Glanbia, TPG and ConAgra Foods. Other notable attendees joining the several rugby legends included the Rose of Tralee (Ms. Chicago), former Miss Ireland and Cian O' Sullivan (2006) a member of the Dublin All Ireland winning football team..
The Union honoured Hugo MacNeill (1977) for his contribution to the College, Union, Blackrock College RFC and recognised his success across his career, sporting and voluntary activities. Hugo gave an excellent acceptance speech.
The Irish government was represented by a delegation and opening remarks were made by Minister Shane Ross who was followed by the President of the Union, Brian O' Neill who welcomed the attendees to this event. The weekend was a historic success with the Chicago Cubs winning the world series after 108 years. Ireland continued the ground-breaking weekend breaking 111 year drought to beat New Zealand in front of the largest attended rugby match in US history.
Our many thanks to the support of the President and Union team and North American committee including its team of senior advisors and the Chicago committee led by James Sheehan.
