This year's 5 School event was held in the Herbert Park Hotel on Friday 2nd February.210 people from a cross section of the 5 Spiritan Schools Blackrock,Rockwell,St.Michael's,St.Mary's and Templeogue attended the event which is now in its eight year.Sherry Fitzgerald Auctioneers were the lead sponsors in what was a very enjoyable evening. The night started with a Drinks Reception followed with a recital from the St.Michael's Parent's Choir and they went down very well indeed. We then sat down to dinner where Fr.Brendan Carr said Grace and spoke about our designated charity this year which was for Fr.John Skinnader where he has been working in the Missions in South Sudan since 2012.
Over 10k was raised on the night for Fr John in Sudan and we are grateful for everyone's generosity and hard work. After the dinner we held a Q&A with RTE Commentator Greg Allan as compere and our 4 guests Brent Pope,Victor Costello,Niall Woods and Simon Keogh on the current state of Rugby in Ireland and we had a most interesting debate on the game. The evening then finished up with an Auction and Colin Smyth of St.Mary's wielded his gavel on the audience in getting strong funds for the 7 Auction items most notably the painting of James Joyce by renowed painter David Nowlan. This event has become an ever present on the 5 Union calendars and much needed funds is raised every year for chosen charities.
Can I thank the organisers Joe Barrett,Stephen Tracey ,Sean O'Farrell,Brendan Toolan for their continued efforts in planning this event and the continued support of the Unions and the schools. This is a true Spiritan event and all there enjoyed a fun filled night."
