The logistical challenge of delivering 200 hampers to families in dire need in West Tallaght by the Transition Year parents and students on the 17
th December was organised and executed with a calm efficiency. This excellent outcome can only be achieved with expert planning and management and deserved credit once again goes to the Transition Year Dean Eoin Brennan. The recipient families are extremely grateful for the generosity and practical support, in difficult times. The parents are to be commended too for turning up in such numbers. The hamper deliveries provided the opportunity to parents and students to see at first hand the beneficial impact of this much needed temporal support at Christmas time.
The Transition Year students also provided critical support to the Christmas tree sales project which earned the Society an excellent return of €81,132. Consistent positive feedback has been received regarding the helpfulness and courtesy of the Transition Year students in this context.
However, the impressive fundraising was not confined to the transition year students. The enthusiasm and commitment was contagious across all the years. The 2
nd and 3
rd Years’ Duck Races raised €5,610 which is tremendous. The 4
th Year Soccer marathon raised a whopping €11,581. The 5
th Year poker event contributed an impressive €2,000. The 6
th Years student fast raised a valued €3,640 and the Coffee morning and Tuck Shop sales contributed a further €359. This was another year of impressive achievement in fundraising for SVP, which could not be delivered without the determination and commitment of the entire school community and the students’ parents, underpinned by the Spiritan ethos.
In summary, the SVP fundraising totalled a staggering €104,322 which is testament to the enthusiasm and drive of the students under the astute leadership of the Deans.
The Blackrock College Conference of the Saint Vincent De Paul would like to thank the Union, the Principal, Deans and teaching staff, Reverend Fathers, students and their generous parents for their relentless support which truly underlines the robust Christian ethos of Blackrock College. The fundraising achievements in 2016 will ultimately make a key difference to many of our families in need for generations to come.
Thank you sincerely.
