The Blackrock College golf society was formed in 1919 when the Union Cup (now presented to the winner of the Presidents Prize each year) was donated by Lord Justice O̢۪Connor and Surgeon Kennedy, to be played for by members of the Union.
In the years since the golf society has held two outings each year, the Captain̢۪s Prize in April/May and the Presidents Prize in early September. In addition, the top 15 players in the Captain̢۪s Prize each year together with the holder, play off for the Blackrock Match-play title during the Summer months. The society also enter a team in the Union of Schools golf outing each year.
Michael Carew as secretary of the golf society for the last fourteen years (ably supported by Brendan Lynch) has done an incredible job of running the golf society. To continue the great work that Michael & Brendan have done, the Union and the golf society have put in place a new committee under the Chairmanship of Jack Gleeson, to include Robert McCarthy, Mark Collins, Dylan O̢۪Reilly and Stephen Noonan, who will Captain the Society for the coming year.
