Philip Lane (class of 1987) European Central Bank Chief Economist

On behalf of the Blackrock College Union and all our members we would like to congratulate Philip Lane (class of 1987) on his appointment to the role of European Central Bank Chief Economist. This is a fantastic achievement.
Philip who recently won the Business person of the year award at the annual business lunch has led Ireland̢۪s central bank since 2015. Professor lane was the Whately Chair of Political Economy at Trinity College Dublin where he had taught since 1997. Prior to this he was Assistant Professor of Economics and International Affairs at Columbia University having received his doctorate from Harvard University.
Most importantly of all and something that will not be reported widely he was chairman of the Economics society in 1986 / 87 where it all began.
Congratulations Philip – We are all proud of you.
