A letter from the Mission Fund
Date : Thursday, 17th December 2015
Dear Past Student,
So, like nearly every letter or email you receive, similar to this one, you will probably get to the first line before you end up ripping it or binning it. I have done it myself. If you have managed to get this far, I ask you to keep going. A couple of minutes is all I ask you to take, so that you might get a small understanding of one aspect of your Past Pupils Union’s activity.
As you are aware, one of the integral foundations of your Past Pupils Union is the charitable works that are carried out on your behalf during the year. When times are tough it is easy to forget that there are still many disenfranchised and poverty stricken children and families throughout the world.
I am writing to you, to ask that you consider donating to the Mission Fund charitable work that is carried out in some of the poorest regions .
Over the coming months the Mission Fund is embarking on a drive to improve the way we communicate with all past pupils in an effort to show how your assistance has a real, long term, vital and worthwhile effect on the marginalised. We also want to show how it is greatly appreciated by those who benefit. As a result, we are also about to launch a Facebook page and start using other communication tools where past pupils will be able to see first hand how their efforts to raise funds have had a long lasting and positive effect on real people. We will let you know over the coming months how we progress with all of this.
I want you to take one more minute to read a short story that outlines what your money does achieve. When you have finished please do fill out the form and send it back to us. Sacrificing 10 Euro per month will help us help the needy, and literally drag some of them out of the gutters.
If you were able, you could join me and fully sponsor a child’s education for 700 euro per annum for four years, the Spiritans have vetted children that will not get an education without a sponsor.
If you would like more information, please feel free to contact me anytime.
Yours Sincerely
Aidan Corless

The following is one child that your contributions have helped.
Ken Wambua
My name is Ken Wambua, I am 15 years old and a form one student at Holy Ghost School- Spiritan Makueni. I hope to become a great farmer one day. My father died while I was in class six. We live with our mother who also works at Holy Ghost School
Last week, I had an interesting talk with our principal. He wanted to know how many we are in our family. When I told him that we are nine children, he asked me what position I was among the nine. He was surprised when I started counting using my fingers to figure this out. I come from a family where survival is more important than what rank one holds.
I am happy that, I got a chance to study at this beautiful school. I am even happier that my mother has been employed to work as gardener in this school (although at times I feel as if the whole school knows my history). By the time my father died five years ago we were six children. But now we are nine.
In the Makutano village where my family lives (one hour walk from the school) we referred to as the Kosovo and Bosnia because of constant fights especially during the evening meals.
Things in this school are different. The food is plenty, clean and no fights while serving. It is a different experience to have porridge in the morning, morning tea, lunch and supper. I came to this school looking sickly and thin. Now the change in me is evident.
I will do my best to assist my mother and sisters. I thank God that my mother is earning something to be able to take care of my young sisters.
I remain grateful to God and to all the people that I never met, who have changed my life forever with sponsorship.
Ken
Thank you for helping Ken, and I ask you to continue supporting us, allowing us to sink water wells and sponsor education, our Spiritans need our support in their difficult missions.
“There is no such thing as a bad child, just a child that hasn’t been loved enough” – John Bosco.
The Mission Fund is also contributing to the New Spiritan school in Machakos Kenya.
We have launched a booklet which recounts the story of how we are helping build the school, and give employment, these are available at reception, or the Union Centre.
We have many needy children and sincerely hope that you can help us, help them.
With what we earn we make a living,
With what we give, we make a life.
