In 2005 on a Kenyan visit I first witnessed hungry children with extended stomachs.
Getting one meal a day was a luxury, as many went 2/3 days without food. The missionary priests provided what they could independent of religion. Our Spiritans tell us of what it meant to receive aid from The Mission Fund, not alone how it served the poor, but also how it energised the priest, and gave him hope when he could see little.
This support meant more than finance, it meant the priest felt connected with us, that we at home were thinking of his mission and supporting him as best we could. We can be so proud of our missionaries.
Thanks mainly to the World Food Programme promoted by the United Nations we witness much less food shortage nowadays.
Today we have a new hunger, a hunger for Education. We all know its the only escape from Poverty, but secondary education is NOT FREE, so most cannot afford to pay the school fees. The Mission Funds aim is to sponsor the education of the poor whilst supporting our Missionary priests. It costs 700 euro per annum.
Could you sacrifice 700 euro per annum, to give a child a chance in this world ? It will be one of the most important things you could do, to give a future to someone who has no future without you.
We in the western world have a duty to help them. Those who sponsor a child feel so proud of their child when they read about their lives.
Spiritan Schools in the third world get weekly applications, asking to educate a child FREE, and amazingly as part of their ethos, they try to help and find sponsors . We currently sponson 53 students in three schools.
Will you sponsor a needy child ? We need more sponsors. We are a registered charity and can give tax receipts.
Thanks for reading this, I look forward to hearing from you.
