We regret to announce the death of Fr. Kevin (‘Kev’) Browne. Aged 83, he died yesterday (6th September) in Marian House.
Kevin was born in Ballyard, Tralee, Co. Kerry on 23rd November 1931 to Kathleen (née Savage) and Daniel Joseph Browne. His family re-located to Dublin when he was young. Having been a student of Willow Park and then Blackrock College from 1937 until 1949, he entered the Spiritan novitiate in Kilshane and was professed in 1950 before undertaking his Philosophy studies in Kimmage Manor and completing a BA in Economics / B. Commerce and his H. Dip.
He prefected in St. Mary’s College, Rathmines for two years before moving in 1957 to study Theology in Fribourg (Switzerland) where he was ordained three years later.
Fr. Kevin’s first appointment was to Umuahia in Nigeria in 1961 where he served in teaching roles and as Director of Umuahia Junior Seminary.
Out of Nigeria when its civil war started, he managed to return there in 1969 but had to leave again after a short period. He undertook pastoral ministry in London in 1970 and, from later the same year, in the U.S.A. He served in Mauritius in a teaching role in 1971 – 1972 before returning to Ireland due to illness.
Appointed in 1973 to the Blackrock Community where he would live for just under 40 years, Fr. Kevin taught in Willow Park until 2005. He moved to Marian House in 2012.

Funeral Arrangements:
Tuesday, 8th September: Reposing in the Mission House, Kimmage Manor from 2pm. Prayers at 4.30pm.
Wednesday, 9th September: Prayers at 10.30 followed by removal to Holy Spirit Church, Kimmage for Funeral Mass at 11.00am. Burial afterwards in Deansgrange cemetery.
