Blackrock College Opera 2011
This year’s musical is an adaptation of the great Hollywood classic “Casablanca”. Conceived by this year’s 6th Years in conjunction with Una O’Kane and Toirleac O’Brien, it was felt that although it was not conceived as a musical originally, the addition of appropriate material from the period would work. Who could resist songs like “My Funny Valentine”?
It is a significant move from the more contemporary musical of recent years, a more nostalgic and hopefully more charming type of production. The Union night will be Friday and we look forward to a great turnout – as usual the production team comprise Toirleac O’Brien, Una O’Kane and the return of Sinéad Nolan.
This year the music and performance is of a particularly high quality, with many students having performed half a dozen times in previous shows. With the high production values and track record of previous shows, the senior musical continues to be the highlight in the school calendar.
The Union night is Friday 18th November, tickets are priced at €15 and the musical starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7:15 pm.
The show is suitable for the entire family and I would encourage you to invite family and friends for what will be a great night out. Light Refreshments will be served during the interval in the teacher’s dining room.
Tickets can be purchased on-line through the Union website or by contacting Rita on 01 2784310 and paying by credit card or by sending a cheque to the Union Centre c/o Blackrock College.
