As you know throughout the year the college organises various events and as a Union we like to show solidarity by supporting these events and attending them. One event that the Union would like to see a good turn out at is the upcoming Blackrock College musical.
The musical “Ochόn” is this years offering. The Union’s night is Friday 14th of November. Tickets are €20. This event is suitable for the entire family so it would be great to see not only past pupils but also your extended families.
The paragraph below gives some background to the play.
Ochόn was written by Jamie Conway and Toirleac O’Brien (College Staff) in 2002. The Northern Ireland problems were in the process of being resolved, but the writers felt that no show suitable for a school production had been written recording the horrors of the previous 30 years. Ochόn, therefore has an educational as well as dramatic value in that it may open the eyes of the young people who see it, who have lived their lives protected and remote from the sufferings of our near neighbours. The play reveals how the lives of young people, even those with peaceful intentions could be shattered by the bigotry and hatred of so many of the people who lived amongst them. Ochόn is a serious and in many ways grim story, but it does show that the human spirit can still aspire to love and hope even in the darkest times.
